In the course of this year’s annual general meeting of the European Association of Event Centres (EVVC) the CCD Congress Center Düsseldorf was awarded the Green Globe Certificate as one of the first convention centres worldwide.
The organisation ‘Green Globe Certification’ has been testing hotels and other tourist facilities for their ecological awareness for some years now. Together with the EVVC, Green Globe has developed a special certification procedure for event centres over the past months. This has for the first time established
verifiable, practice-oriented criteria for successful sustainability management in this business sector. A total of 125 criteria are currently asked for in the context of the Green Globe certification procedure. In order to receive the award, at least 51 percent of the required criteria must be fulfilled. An independent
auditor verifies this. Auditing is repeated every two years in order to give participants enough time to dedicate themselves to those criteria they did not meet before. In this way the participating event centres not only receive a certificate but also take part in a continuous optimisation and improvement process concerning sustainability. As long-standing member of the EVVC, DüsseldorfCongress together with some other EVVC members has in recent months taken part in the development of the Green Globe concept for event centres and has been able, in the course of these preparations, to gain the certification for the CCD Congress Center Düsseldorf.
