Social Projects

As part of events and general business activities DüsseldorfCongress supports selected charitable organisations and social projects.

Here you will find two current examples of social projects supported by DüsseldorfCongress:

  • ‘Dreck-weg’ day (day dedicated to clearing up waste in the city)

Nine successful ‘Dreck-weg’ days have thus far taken place in Düsseldorf. In total more than 90,000 Düsseldorf residents have participated in the project, having gathered a total of 805 tons of debris. In 2001 the Düsseldorf ‘Dreck-weg’ day was even entered into the Guinness Book of Records. With 11,116 participants and 121 tons of collected waste, the project was among the most successful of its kind in the world.

Since the start of the Düsseldorf ‘Dreck-weg’ day, which is organised by ‘Pro Düsseldorf e.V.’, Messe Düsseldorf has sponsored the project. As part of the project staff of both Messe Düsseldorf and DüsseldorfCongress are invited to join in the spring cleaning activities in the grounds of the exhibition centre and thus contribute to a clean environment for exhibitions and conferences.

  • Support for ‘Welthungerhilfe’ (world famine relief)

DüsseldorfCongress is also dedicated to international charitable projects. For instance, within the framework of the local ‘Stadtwerke Düsseldorf Dragon Boat Regatta 2008’ in the Media Harbour, donations were collected in cooperation with the agency AEM Solution. Under the motto ‘companies doing good’ visitors were offered to join in a variety of activities, with all proceeds donated to the Welthungerhilfe.

Part of the project was, for instance, the ‘ESPRIT arena Street Soccer Cup’, to which teams of 5 people were invited to register. The winning team had the opportunity to participate in the final which took place in the ESPRIT arena.

A further event supporting the Welthungerhilfe was the world premiere of ‘Dragon boat ON THE ROAD’. Visitors thoroughly enjoyed testing this new dragon boat event while at the same time being able to support a good cause, with all entry fees donated to the Welthungerhilfe. The winners had the opportunity to take part in the ‘Dragon boat regatta ON ICE’ in the ISS DOME.
